Whispering Corridors 3, Wishing Stairs: Movie Review

We here at LesbeAsian would highly recommend this movie. In fact we give it a 4/5 star rating.

Wishing Stairs is the third installment of a series of Whispering Corridors Korean horror films. All of the stories are set in an all girls high school, with various inclusions of the creepy supernatural, suspenseful unexpected, as well as the gore that is expected in a good thriller. The most awesome aspect of the series however, are the overt lesbian relationships throughout each film.

Why do we love the film? It was an obviously Asian lesbian movie with a predominantly women and girl cast, so we did not have to be wary about some hetero relationship thrown in. It was an entertaining film in general, so we were engaged the entire time! Finally, parts of the film was actually scary, so the producers succeeded in the horror genre. The combo of a high lesbo factor and good storyline makes this one a must-see.

The creeper premise of Wishing Stairs is an old tale that revolves around a set of stairs that lead to the school dormitory. There are 28 steps, however the legend goes that if one ascends the stairs with their eyes closed while concentrating on a wish, a 29th step magically appears. Should someone unlock this 29th step, their wish will come true. Of course, as wishes are granted throughout the film other unfavorable events unfold as a consequence.

The main storyline focuses on the relationship between Jin-Sung and Ho-See, best friends that study ballet and spend all of their time outside of school together. Jin-Sung is more introverted and unsure of herself, while Ho-See is the outgoing and playful one that exudes self-confidence. Ho-See is extremely expressive about her love for Jin-Sung. She professes her devotion with lines like "I love you so much, you are all that I need." Their intimate relationship turns sour when Ho-See secures a coveted lead role in a ballet competition. The jealous Jin-Sung betrays her, leading to Ho-See's subsequent death.

Another prominent storyline in Wishing Stairs follows Hye-Ju, the school's awkward social outcast. She struggles with body image issues that are exacerbated by a bully that torments her on a daily basis. Hye-Ju is infatuated with So-Hee, verging on stalkerish with her collecting So-Hee's personal items and creating a shrine in her honor. When So-Hee dies, Hye-Ju consults the Wishing Stairs and cries for So-Hee to come back to her. This is when the story takes a twist from high school special to horror.  Did we convince you to watch it yet? Here is the: Trailer. You can find the full version elsewhere online.
