LOS ANGELES – On April 22, 2012, API Equality-LA will present Sisters Standing Up for Love, a fundraising reception to celebrate and honor amazing contributions women have made to the Asian and Pacific Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer movement. The event will be hosted by actress Tamlyn Tomita (Joy Luck Club, Glee).
“It takes many people to create a social movement,” said Eileen Ma, API Equality-LA’s Executive Director. “This is our opportunity to celebrate important women doing important work.”
This year API Equality-LA is proud to honor Dr. Alice Y. Hom, co-editor of Q & A: Queer in Asian America and Director of the Queer Justice Fund at Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy; Jennifer C. Pizer, Esq., Legal Director at the Williams Institute and co-author of California’s broad domestic partnership law; and Mia F. Yamamoto, Esq., President of the Asian Pacific American Women Lawyers Association (APAWLA) and Co-chair of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA).”
LA City Council Member and Mayoral candidate Jan Perry is scheduled to attend.
Sisters Standing Up for Love will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2012, 1pm, at Quiet Cannon, 901 Via San Clemente, Montebello.Tickets at $50.
